The objective of the medical assisting diploma program is to prepare you with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits to pursue an entry-level position in the ambulatory medical field. The medical assistant certificate program is designed to prepare competent entry-level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. This program concentrates on helping you acquire knowledge and develop skills in performing laboratory, clinical, and medical office procedures in a physician’s office or ambulatory care clinic.

Our campus at 11226 S. Wilcrest Dr., Houston, Texas 77099 spans over 3,800 square feet and includes:

  • Spacious classrooms and a digital classroom
  • Dedicated vaccination and examination rooms
  • Diagnostic laboratory space, EKG lab, and phlebotomy lab
  • A digital resource room and computer lab
  • Break areas and dedicated parking for students
  • Labs are equipped with up-to-date medical and dental equipment to simulate real clinical environments and help you build confidence before externship.

Real-world experience through externships

Externships and clinical courses are an integral part of every program at Avicenna. After completing classroom and lab requirements, students participate in supervised externships or clinical courses at approved medical and dental facilities. These experiences help you apply classroom theory, build technical proficiency, and develop the professional behaviors expected in healthcare settings.

Key points list:

  • Sites assigned by the Institute based on availability and course requirements
  • Daytime schedules only – no night externship sites
  • Mandatory externship orientation before placement
  • All required externship/clinical hours must be completed to graduate

Small note: Students are responsible for transportation, parking, and any site-specific requirements such as additional background checks or drug screening.
